Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket

As an appetizer for the Day of Portugal, the Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket, Rhode Island has a temporary exhibit celebrating Portuguese culture.
The exhibit gives a brief and concise overview of Portugal’s history, from the Reconquista, to the establishment of the Republic, the downfall of Estado Novo, and Portugal’s entry into the EU. The exhibit also displayed the touchstones of Portuguese culture, such as Portuguese tiles, instruments, and beloved Portuguese-made products.
Also on display was artwork by young children and what Portugal means to them, whether it be its rich food culture, its seafaring history, or just the beauty of the national flag.
Despite Woonsocket not being a historical hub for a large Portuguese community, the exhibit pays homage to the influence and presence the Portuguese has had in Rhode Island and New England. If you have a chance and are in the Providence area, it is highly recommended you stop by to see such passion for the community.
